Course Overview

Welcome to this manual on AC coupled Solar hybrid systems. It is assumed the learner has some basic introductory knowledge of solar energy, specifically, the generation of solar energy from the sun. The major weakness of solar energy is its intermittent and unstable output characteristic. To eliminate this disadvantage, various strategies have been thought of and implemented, including solar hybrid systems. Then, solar hybrid energy systems are combinations of solar energy with a suitable stabilizing media. The stabilizing media could be, for example, grid-tied or energy storage mediums. It is pretty evident, therefore, that there is significant potential and demand for solar hybrid energy systems.

On the other hand, there is a shortage of qualified technicians to install, service, and maintain the same systems safely. As a result, the performance of some of the installed systems is below expectations. This manual aims to equip learners with a thorough foundation and hands-on training on solar hybrid systems. The intended audience of this manual is anyone with basic electronic, electrical, or mechanical skills; an introductory course on solar energy systems will be highly beneficial but is not a must. It will be discovered that this manual places a significant premium on developing practical skills and theoretical knowledge for greater mastery of the subject.

Objectives

The manual is designed to enable the learners to:

  • Attain and apply knowledge on solar hybrid systems in the field as a solar technician, in addition to being able to read and understand fundamental technical and performance standards
  • Safely install, troubleshoot, and maintain solar hybrid systems in the field
  • Illustrate proficiency in identifying installed hybrid systems and be able to gauge the efficiency of those systems
